Consider having your child do one quick worksheet two to three times per week during the summer as a stress-free way to review his fractions. When the child doesn’t have a full load of schoolwork, they often don’t mind doing a couple of worksheets. This is an excellent way to review a difficult subject such as fractions and it keeps the subject fresh in your child’s mind.
If this doesn’t make any sense to you, don’t worry about it. Just trust me, if you don’t know your multiplication tables, you can’t factor. If you can’t factor, you won’t do well at all in algebra, geometry, or trigonometry.
Homeschool worksheets have pros and cons that depend on the type of material the worksheet deals with. One advantage is that worksheets are very handy if you want to give your child something to do. Some types of worksheets are very easy to grade and can be completed without much input from you. Worksheets can also give you a good idea of how much your child was able to understand of the subject matter.
As a teacher, I supplement my lessons with appropriate worksheets. I can then check a student’s progress. I can also monitor how much work they actually are doing.For parents, printable math worksheets are a great tool for drilling their own kids in those same skills.
Most particularly, children are not taught mastery of arithmetic with fractions. Unfortunately, virtually all of their future math education depends on being able to do fractional arithmetic.
